Colors are part of spirituality on all levels. The different colors we wear for ceremonies, how we identify chakras with colors, how colors affect our moods and what colors are represented in some circles as feeding this or that emotion or energy. Colors are very prominent and they all represent something different to someone different. However, there are some basics that come from Sanskrit meanings in the Hindu religions and they can be focused upon more than other means of color coordination and meaning. Here are the basic meanings for some of the more primary colors we seem to focus on and how they might affect our choices and our lives.

Red

This can mean passion, anger, fiery spirits, or even in some cultures means a woman of ill repute or the devil is walking in this or that area. Red is the foundation of many different things. It symbolizes power to some nations and is supposedly said to make us feel hunger so is used in many schemes for restaurants, especially fast food. Red is the color of the root chakra and this chakra is said to focus on our feelings of security in our lives.

Blue

A very inviting color and one that reminds of us boundless skies, seas, and an inviting and cool interior of our mind and spirit. Businesses use blues for a mood setting to make people comfortable and also to stimulate memories of fondness. Blue is tied to the throat chakra which is the foundation of communication. When we can't communicate it is said that the blue is cloudy or has given way to a brackish color instead.

Yellow

Sunshine is the first thing that comes to mind and many times is tied to happiness and the ability to express emotions. Yellow is the color of the solar plexus chakra and this chakra governs well-being, security in self and our ability to express our confidence. Yellow is a color of confidence and happiness. To wear yellow is said to brighten the mood almost instantaneously and many would agree that a yellowish hue makes them feel more cheerful.

White

Yes this color can be tied to virginity as well as peaceful thoughts and emotions. It's also thought of as a clean slate or something that needs to be written or spoken. White is sometimes said to be the color of the crown chakra rather than purple and that is where our spiritual natures and knowledge are fed and come into fruition. White is also a color that is said to be helpful and makes others feel at ease.

Black

This color is said to breed negativity and bad thoughts. Certain stones of this color are said to ward off evil spirits and emotions and many people will carry onyx or black opal in an attempt to fight such emotions. To those of the Hindu faiths black can also be a harmful color that draws and feeds on negative emotions making those who wear it or use it in practice more susceptible to evil.
