Reading runes has become linked with the "new age" movement that has been going on since the 1980's. Not only can runes be used for divination, but help with self-empowerment and awareness, personal protection and healing.

Runes teach us the importance of life in all its forms, the necessity of learning lessons on our life paths, and offer to show us when we will reach cross roads in our lives and how to deal with them.

Made with natural elements, rock, bone or wood, each rune gives off a specific vibration to the reader, so that when chosen, the rune "feels" right to help answer or guide the reader.

A rune has a corresponding crystal, colour, herb and tree associated with the rune, these help when determining how a rune is read in regards to the life lesson that is at hand.

As with any divination tool, your runes need to be cleansed and dedicated to help, whether it's through meditation while holding the runes, or simply by passing them through a flame of a white candle.

The first reading to learn is the simple single rune reading. Whether you choose to draw a rune from a pouch or choose one from runes placed face down on a rune cloth, the vibration is what you are looking for. When asking your question, phrase it as a request for guidance, rather than a yes or no question. Draw the rune that calls out to you; hold it in your hand and take a moment to think about the question you are asking. When ready, place the rune in-front of you and using the guide, decipher the rune and its' answer to your question.

For this reading I've asked "How does my relationship with my friend affect my family life?" I've drawn the rune Wynn which means happiness. To be truly happy with all of my relationships, I must be happy with myself first. I must maintain balance and work on all relationships as I give, I will be given back. The corresponding associations of this rune are Ash, yellow, flax and diamond.

Three rune spread is read from left to right with three rune stones. It is used as a past, present and future reading to show you where you are in learning a specific lesson, what is happening now and what will you learn from the lesson.

For this reading I've asked "Please show me what I need to do to continue on my life path." The first rune is called Ken, reveals my past; it represents a torch, by showing that I need to follow the light path for enlightenment. The second rune is Geofu, which reveals my present. It represents a gift; by giving as much as receiving I create balance in my life. The third rune is called Mann, which reveals my future path. This rune represents the human being, and by which the path of growth and fulfillment.

As you get familiar with working with runes, you will not only be able to stay on your life path, but help others along theirs.
